From Our Kitchen (Blog)
CommonWealth Kitchen’s own Grace Connor, owner of little G ice cream, making it big!
She’s already been featured in Boston Magazine, The Boston Globe and People Magazine, and NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt! Next up The Rachel Ray Show on January 12th!
And coming soon, you can find little g ice cream in every Whole Foods in the New England region! ...Not bad for a 17-year old high school senior!
When Grace Connor submitted her application to start her wholesale ice cream company at CommonWealth Kitchen at age 16, we assumed this was a fleeting dream; the whim of an idealistic teenager. WOW were we wrong!
Grace Connor is a total professional (when she’s doing homework or playing in the High School orchestra or writing college essays). In less than 15 months, she’s gone from amateur ice cream aficionado, to certified mogul. She’s closing in on a dozen retail accounts, plus a robust online sales business that has shipped pints as far away as Alaska and Hawaii. She has her own delivery vehicle (even though she can’t drive), and a dedicated staff (mostly her hardworking parents- but she has them HUSTLING!).
She’s in charge of every aspect of her business—from handling the social media and managing orders; to developing the delicious array of unique flavors and hand-producing all them (chocolate milk and cookies, snack attack, confetti birthday cake, triple cookie dough, hot chocolate, coffee and donuts, etc.). She’s truly inspiring to watch.
What makes her story even more inspiring is to know that Grace started the business as a form of therapy while dealing with complications caused by removal of a tumor on the base of her brain.
Thankfully, Grace is well, and in full swing with the ice cream biz. She graduates from high school this spring, and plans to take a gap year to focus on her business. Imagine what she’ll accomplish when she’s running the business FULL TIME!
We’re gonna need a bigger freezer!
