Our CommonWealth Kitchen community of food trucks, caterers, restaurants, bakers and product companies have been devastated by the COVID pandemic. Most have shuttered. The handful that are operating, are struggling to navigate a path forward in these very uncertain times.
Never ones to sit down for long, CommonWealth Kitchen’s determined community of entrepreneurs have rallied together to launch a new initiative we’re calling CommonTable.
CommonTable leverages our powerful network of member food businesses, neighborhood restaurants, farm partners, and community-based organizations to produce delicious, culturally diverse, prepared meals to feed families in need -- because when you have more than you need, you build a longer table, not a higher fence.
It’s a community response to a community crisis.
your donations thus far have supported:
CommonTable is leveraging our deep, trusting partnerships with a wide network of food businesses, farms, public agencies, funders, and community-based organizations.
we’re working with the Boston Area Gleaners, Red’s Best, and multiple farm partners to source local produce and fish whenever possible. We welcome donations of ingredients to incorporate into our meals!
we’re relying on the tremendous culinary skills of our food trucks and restaurant partners, like Chef Ernie Campbell, owner of Jamaica Mi Hungry and the culinary team from Fresh Food Generation, to develop a wide range of menu options that reflect the cultural diversity of our community. Whenever possible, we also integrate ingredients and products from our member companies, including sauces and baked goods.
we’re leveraging our networks by producing meals in our own kitchen plus collaborating with local restaurants owned by immigrants and people of color to meet the community need, invest back in our neighborhoods, and fully represent the cultures and traditions of our City.
we’re partnering with neighborhood health centers, affordable housing partners, community-based non-profits, and public agencies all across Greater Boston to ensure that meals are distributed to those who need it.
Check out the City of Boston’s Food Access Resources to help direct you to a local site. Or you can always dial 311- the City of Boston hotline.
If you’re a community center in need of meals, fill out this interest form. If you’re a restaurant hoping to partner, share your capacity and interest here and we’ll get back to you within a week.
who were the early adopters we needed to get this vision launched.
We have funding to get this effort launched, but know the need is far greater than the resources we have available.
For every $10 donation, we will be able to feed another individual with a delicious meal, while supporting our local food economy. Can we count on you for support?
